Greater Edendale Race getting greater every year
Getting greater year by year: that's the Greater Edendale 10km Race and 5km Fun Run! And so it was that the FNB Wadley Stadium in Georgetown, Edendale in the KZN Midlands once again hosted a fantastic community sporting event on Sunday 14 November 2010, where even the early morning showers failed to dampen the spirit of the participants who turned out in droves to be part of the exciting activities.
Now in its fourth year, the 10km Race and 5km Fun Run went off with a bang and hosted a total of more than 1200 runners. Partnering to make a success of the sporting spectacle was the Msunduzi Municipality and the Umsunduzi Tourism Association, together with the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA).
As has been the case in the past few years, this race attracted a number of top short distance athletes. The likes of Tanith Maxwell, Onneil Dintwe, Lesley Ruto and Daniel Regon competed for the prize money on offer which totalled R13 900. Up for grabs to both male and female winners was a cool first prize of R2 500.
The men's10 km race was a very fast paced affair, with Daniel Regon taking the top prize in a time of 29:28.

CMA Chairman Peter Proctor offered a vote of thanks to all participants, supporters and sponsors of the race, especially to the youth, whom he encouraged to continue competing in such events, saying: 'It is these youngsters who showcase the talent and endurance in our part of the world. Ultimately, it is them who will eventually take on the Comrades Marathon challenge and grow up to be true sporting heroes. We at the CMA aim to grow these future sporting greats and salute each one of you.'
