A New Dawn for Msunduzi Human Settlements Sub-Unit

The Human Settlements sub-unit recently held its strategic workshop at the Oribi Gorge conference centre in June 2015 in order to build a solid foundation from which to begin to the re-engineering of the Sub-Unit. The output of the strategic session was to craft the Sub-Unit's vision, mission, strategic goals, branding and a relook at the current organisational structure taking the Sub-Unit to 2035 (City Vision).

The sub-unit's vision is "To contribute to the overall vision of Msunduzi through development of integrated and sustainable human settlements thereby creating a city which is a home for all to live, learn, raise family, work and play".

During the past year, the sub-unit has focused on addressing all the backlogs to currently running human settlements projects, both at planning and implementation as well as the National Upgrading Support Programme (NUSP). The other key focus has been to position the Sub-Unit appropriately for enhanced future service delivery.

Also as its Strategic Intent, the Msunduzi Human Settlement Sub-Unit sees itself becoming the residential property developer of the municipality, providing housing opportunities not only for the government subsidized market, but for all residents regardless of income group. The strategic business plan arising from the Oribi Gorge workshop will be presented to Council in due course. This is a solid foundation that the Sub-Unit has laid and the management believes that the Sub-Unit will grow from strength to strength and contribute to the advancement of the City by 2035.
